One of the interactive parts of my medical school is the service learning aspect. By the end of 4th year, each student is required to complete 40 hours of service learning. This roughly works out to 1 hour/month until graduation. Service Learning. Starting here, I would have thrown community service and service learning under the same category, with the exception of service learning having a more educational ring.

Today was another Ethical presentation at my medical school. These happen every two weeks and occur during lunch on Thursdays. I enjoy them because it allows me to break away from the same medical theme that I am studying but still engages me in the medical community. Maximizing the utility of breaks.
The most recent topic: Paradigms Clash: Gender, Pain, and Social Change. The presentation was given by Nancy D. Campbell.
We just finished our second week of our cardio theme. Cardio theme can be summed up in one word: Graphs. Graphs with pressure, volume, time, length, tension, velocity, sound… the list goes on and so do the permutations that arise from all the variables. Once you fit that magic key from your brain in the cardio-graph lock, the world is supposed to look so simple. Currently still searching for the key though. I will get it soon. I am currently on break! We just finished Neuro 1. This theme was pretty hard. Logistically, it was broken into a midterm and final (the final being cumulative). We learned about all the cranial nerves and how we process and initiate movement (and 10,000 other things). As I sit here on my kitchen island, I want to recap some of the moments of the theme.
